DUNGUN, Jan 8 – The aid extended by the UMNO Welfare Bureau to flood victims in the affected areas is not a general election agenda to garner public support, says the bureau chairman, Datuk Dr Shamsul Anuar Nasarah.
The Lenggong Member of Parliament said the aid programme covering 70 selected parliamentary constituencies was targeted at assisting the needy including the elderly, single mothers and the low-income group including flood victims.
“This aid is not given seasonally, and it is given since last year. Thus far, the Dungun parliamentary constituency is the 40th area we have visited to deliver the aid. God willing, after the next two weeks, we will be going to Sabah to cover the other parliamentary constituencies under the programme.”
He said this after handing out aid to about 100 flood victims in Kampung Pasir Raja and Kampung Shukor in conjunction with the ‘UMNO Jom Bantu Rakyat 2.0’ (UMNO Let’s Help People 2.0) programme, here, today.
Also present were Dungun UMNO division chief, Datuk Din Adam and Bukit Besi assemblyman, Roslee Daud.
Shamsul Anuar said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government and UMNO were very committed to looking after the welfare of the people as it was a main agenda of the party under the leadership of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, so as to give them a comfortable life.
He said, hopefully, such a programme could raise the people’s confidence and awareness that only UMNO and BN could lead in caring for the welfare of the people, regardless of their age, race, religion and political ideology.
