KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said has been appointed the new Minister in charge of Legal Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Department’s Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) confirmed today.

The appointment, effective June 28, sees the Pengerang MP replacing Nancy Shukri who has held the portfolio since 2013.

“Following the reshuffle of portfolios in the Prime Minister’s Department, the entire BHEUU of the Prime Minister’s Department would like to welcome YB Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said as the 19th minister appointed with the responsibility over BHEUU effective June 28, 2016,” the statement said.

The changes also affect several other portfolios for two other ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department. In a separate statement by Nancy’s aide, Nancy is taking over the responsibilities as Minister overseeing Malaysian Innovation Agency, Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and the Malaysian Nuclear Agency from Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong, also effective June 28.

Mah in turn, will be replacing Nancy as Acting Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister. Nancy will also remain overseeing the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD), the Commercial Vehicle Licencing Board (LPKP) of Sabah, as well as the LPKP of Sarawak.

A Federal Cabinet reshuffle had taken place on June 27, Umno’s sacking of former Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir who had been openly attacking the prime minister over 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) and related issues.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had mentioned during the reshuffle that there would be a change in portfolios for ministers in the Prime Minister’s Department as well. -Malay mail
