MELAKA: The Ayer Keroh Sessions Court has found 61-year-old Noor Jan Tuah not guilty of four charges of cheating and posing as the Sultan of Melaka five years ago.
Judge Meor Sulaiman Ahmad Tarmizi made the ruling today after the prosecution failed to prove a prima facie case against the businessman.
“The accused will be released and cleared of all four charges,” said Meor Sulaiman at the end of the proceeding.
Noor Jan, from Taman Seri Gombak in Selangor, was charged under Section 419 of the Penal Code for posing as the Sultan of Melaka, which is not his real identity.
He was accused of committing the offence at a holiday resort in Alor Gajah at about 10pm on Dec 28, 2013.
Noor Jan was arrested by police in January 2014 while on his way to Pulau Besar for a Maulidur Rasul celebration event.
The trial, which began on Nov 17 last year, saw 16 witnesses taking the stand. – MalayMail
