UP to 52% of individuals went on to marry their partners despite being diagnosed with HIV, the Dewan Rakyat was told.
“In the past five years, between 18% and 52% of those diagnosed with HIV continued with their weddings,” the Health Ministry said in a written reply to Datuk Ahmad Fauzi Zahari (BN–Setiawangsa).
Its minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said in the same period, however, HIV cases had declined.
He said 765 cases were recorded between 2010 and 2014, with 146 cases in 2010, 221 in 2011, 153 in 2012, 145 in 2013 and 100 last year.
Pre-marital HIV screening started in 2011.
