TAIPING: The People’s Housing Project (PPR) in Kamunting here – comprising 260 flat units for applicants with monthly incomes below RM3,000 – is expected to be ready by 2019.
The 10.52-hectare site of the RM39 million project was cleared on Dec 24, 2016, Urban Wellbeing, Housing and Local Government Minister Tan Sri Noh Omar said today.
”Each PPR flat is 700 sq ft, with three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living hall, a dining hall and a kitchen.
”(The development) will also be equipped with public amenities such as a kindergarten, a surau, a community hall and a playground,” he said after the soft launch of the project in Taman Tasik Kamunting.
Noh said the PPR initiative is part of the government’s efforts to provide more affordable homes to the people, as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is aware of the difficulties the rakyat face in owning a house.
With a rent-to-own concept in place, he said it is hoped that the residents will be able to own the flats at a cost of RM35,000 per unit.
Among terms and conditions that eligible applicants must meet are that they have to live in the units, they are not allowed to use the house as a store or homestay business, and they must be able to commit to and pay the monthly rent.
Noh added that another PPR development, using this year’s budget, is set to begin construction in Bagan Datuk. It will comprise 500 flat units.
The state now has three PPR developments, with PPR Simpang and PPR Seri Iskandar already fully rented out, and PPR Kamunting Perdana undergoing construction.-NST
