PETALING JAYA: A baby – believed to have been dumped – has been rescued by police from the stairwell of an apartment building here.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din said the baby was found at 9.10pm on Monday.

“We were alerted after a 17-year-old girl discovered the baby.

“The girl, who lives on the ninth floor, had just got out of the lift and was on her way to her apartment when she heard the baby crying.

“She followed the cries to a stairwell and found the baby in a box between the eighth and ninth floors,” he said.

ACP Mohd Zani said the girl told her mother, who then called the police.

“We arrived at the scene and rushed the baby to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment. The baby is now in stable condition and DNA samples have been taken,” he said.

A task force was trying to determine the identity of the baby’s mother, he added.-STAR
