FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
16 June 2015
PRESS STATEMENT BY
YB DATUK SERI
In my press statement yesterday, I had informed the media about the illegal meeting of the purported 2009 Central Working Committee of MIC scheduled for today at 12.30 pm at the MIC Headquarters.
The purported Notice of Emergency Meeting of the Interim Central Working Committee of MIC dated 15 June has been issued by “Elected Members of the Central Working Committee … Term 2009-2013” and not the Secretary General of MIC as provided for in the MIC Constitution.
I had, on 15 June 2015, immediately issued a Memo to all CWC members and other leaders to cancel the said illegal meeting of the Interim CWC and to forward to me the cancellation notice. Despite my said Memo dated 15 June 2015, these individuals had not cancelled the scheduled meeting.
It is beyond doubt that the acts of these individuals were clearly detrimental to the interests of the Malaysian Indian Congress. By virtue of the powers vested in me as President of the Malaysian Indian Congress under Article 61.1 of the MIC Constitution, I have suspended the membership of the following persons in MIC for a period of twelve (12) months with immediate effect:
YB Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam
YB Datuk M. Saravanan
YBhg Dato’ Sri S. K. Devamany
Mr. N. Rawisandran
Dato’ R. Ganesan
Dato’ M. Davendran
Dato’ KRA Naidu
Datuk V. M. Panjamothy
Mr P. Manivasagam
Mr S. Ananthan
Mr M. Mathuraiveran
YB Datuk M. Asojan
Mr P Shanmugan
Ms Mohana Muniandy
The other members who also signed the illegal notice have already been suspended by me earlier, which suspensions remain.
I have issued letters of suspension yesterday which will be received by them in due course.
By virtue of the suspension of their membership, pursuant to Article 13.2 of the MIC Constitution, they shall not exercise any of their rights as a member under Articles 13.1, 13.1.1, 13.1.2, 13.1.3 and 13.1.4 of the MIC Constitution.
