The MIC has always been steadfast in its stand and willingness to solve documentation issues amongst the Indian community. The then President of MIC, Datuk Seri Dr S.Subramaniam had undertaken various efforts through SITF, which includes the Mydaftar and Mega Mydaftar campaign to step up efforts to solve documentation issues.
For years, the Malaysian Indian Congress, in its capacity of representing the Indian community in Malaysia has not only undertaken all it could but has always stood it’s grounds on the number of Indians who faced these issues in regards to documentation, statelessness and citizenship. The issue of statelessness were one of Pakatan Harapan’s main bullet in destroying trust and credibility of MIC.
MIC have heard and read statements and speeches by various leaders of Pakatan Harapan insinuating failures of the Barisan Nasional and MIC especially when it came to solving statelessness issues.
Today, when a question was put forward by YB Senator Datuk T.Mohan in Dewan Negara, we heard from the horses mouth, that is the Deputy Minister of KDN, Yb Dato Mohd Azis Jamman that the actual number of stateless Indians in Malaysia is 3,853 and not 300,000 as claimed.
The rakyat were duped to believe that the Barisan Nasional had failed in upholding the rights of the Indian community and that the MIC had also failed in its responsibilities of protecting the Indians.
Now that it has been proven to be wrong and untrue, would any of the leaders of Pakatan Harapan, especially those who sang songs of 300,000 stateless Indians, come forward and apologise. I very much doubt it. I hope this lie is remembered till the next General Election. I put it to the Pakatan Harapan government that even now, solutions towards issues of statelessness were the work undertaken by the MIC and you are merely riding on its efforts.
