Two Perlis assemblymen sworn in as new exco members

ARAU: The swearing in ceremony at the Istana Arau today saw the appointment of two state assemblymen as new state executive councillors, replacing the senior state excos whose services were not renewed.

Chuping assemblyman Asmaiza Ahmad took over Datuk Sabry Ahmad’s (Santan) portfolio. Sabry was is in charge of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Transportation, Regional, Corridor, New Growth Area and New Township Development.

Simpang Empat assemblyman Nurulhisham Yaakob replaced Jafperi Othman (Guar Sanji) as the Public Facilities, Rural Development and Health committee chairman.

Six other state executive councillors were retained for the 2017 term and the new lineup will be in effect until the 14th General Election.

Renewing the oath of office before Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Putra Jamalullail were Ahmad Bakri Ali (Kayang) who was the state Agriculture and Agro-based Industries, Plantation Industries and Commodities, Biotechnology and Green Technology, Small and Medium Industries Development and Border Cooperation committee chairman; Abdul Jamil Saad (Sena) who heads the the Youth and Sports, Tourism, Arts, Cultures and Heritage committee; and Datuk Mat Rawi Kassim (Beseri) who was in charge of the Nature Resources and Environment, Corporate Communication Affairs and Public Complaints, Government Administration and Special Tasks portfolio.

Also present were Khairi Hasan (Mata Ayer) who oversees the state Human Resources Development and Islamic Religious Affairs committee portfolio; Mat Hassan (Kuala Perlis) who is in charge of the Housing and Local Government, City Service, Small Traders and Hawkers Development portfolio; and Rela Ahmad (Bintong), the sole female representative in the state cabinet, looking after the Women, Family and Community Development, Community Welfare and Unity committee.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Azlan Man described the reshuffle as an injection of new blood whereby the new faces would be given exposure and opportunities to share their ideas and skills to further boost the development of the state.

Besides the appointment of the new state excos, Azlan also said there will also be a reshuffle in the lineup portfolios which would be finalised in the next exco meeting on Wednesday.
