Teen who lost both legs aims to be paralympic athlete

Siti Nuraisyah Sahrin, who lost both legs in a road accident on Jan 18, is aiming to be a paralympic athlete in powerlifting. The 13-year-old was all excitement and confidence when she attended the paralympic athlete selection camp at the sports complex in Kampung Pandan, Kuala Lumpur.

Siti Nuraisyah, fondly known as Ecah, became an amputee after a lorry ran over her legs earlier this year.

“I am hoping to complete all the assignments and pray that there is a livelihood (rezeki) for me here,” Ecah said.

The Form One student of SMK Bagan Terap has been doing weight training for two months under a volunteer coach, Muhamad Nor Arif Abdullah, 46. The strong-spirited teen trains twice a week, each session running for two hours from 4.30pm.

Muhammad Nor Arif said Ecah can lift up to 50kg and has the potential to go further. – Harian Metro
