KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3, 2015:
Registrar of Societies (RoS) is aware of the meeting that Datuk Seri G. Palanivel’s camp has planned for this afternoon but RoS’ top man says he will not be able to attend.
RoS director-general Datuk Mohammad Razin Abdullah said he would not be available as he is to attend a conference away from his Putrajaya office, but has requested for police’s assistance should the meeting go awry and result in disturbance of public order.
“I’ve heard about the meeting but I don’t know what they want from us, probably to hand a memorandum or a letter and I’ve asked for a representative to be there to receive it.
“They can do what they want as long as it is within the ambit of the law,” he said when contacted today.
On possibility that the meeting was to obtain clarification as to who is the rightful president of the BN component party, Mohammad Razin said the answer was clearly stated in a June 25 letter issued to MIC.
“We stand by what we wrote in the letter. In it we have listed the names of the office bearers recognised by RoS.
“It is evident, through the letter, as to whom is the party president.”
According to the letter, RoS has acknowledged Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam as MIC’s acting president until a party election is conducted and on Aug 21, Subramaniam was announced as the official president after winning the post uncontested.
Palanivel had around a week prior, also declared himself as MIC president having won uncontested in an earlier party election.
The MIC fiasco began at the end of 2013 and has continued until today.
In a Federal Cabinet reshuffle last month, Palanivel was dropped from his post as Minister of Natural Resources and Environment, leaving Health Minister Subramaniam as MIC’s sole full minister.- The Rakyat Post
