MIC branch chief collapses after speech, pronounced dead at clinic


LUMUT: MIC Lumut branch chief P. Nagappan, 68, has died after collapsing during an event attended by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir near here today.

In the 1.30pm incident, the deceased collapsed after giving his speech at the Deepavali aid programme at Kejora Resort Pangkor.

Pangkor assemblyman special officer Azri Jaafar said Nagappan who was sitting next to Zambry on stage suddenly went down on his knee and start shaking.

“Menteri Besar managed to grab him (Nagappan) before asking for the organiser to help and send him to Klinik Desa Pangkor.

“However, he was pronounced dead upon arrival,” he said when contacted.

It was believed the deceased died due to lung cancer.

Zambry is expected to attend Nagappan’s funeral tomorrow.
