The results of both the Kuala Kangsar and Sungai Besar by elections are timely endorsement of Barisan Nasional’s partnership. It is an endorsement of Prime Minister Najib’s inclusive policies. The consensus model of BN won. MCA, MIC and Gerakan have contributed to the victory of candidates nominated by UMNO.Under the new leadership of MIC President Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, indian electorates embraced BN through MIC efforts.

In recent times there has been skeptics within BN top leadership about MIC’s relevance. With the resounding 75/80% Indian voter support in both constituencies the critics have been proven wrong. They have been silenced. It is time BN leadership takes cognisance of the resurgent MIC under a new leader which is on the ground with its positive transformational agenda connecting well with the Indian community. The community is responsive.

MIC is not seasonal party. In both Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar it has a permanent operational party structure. It has a historical presence. Only MIC knows the pulse of the local community. Under the committed and focussed leadership of Datuk Seri Dr. S. Subramaniam, MIC is on a transformational agenda. MIC State, Divisional leaders together with a very committed Youth, Wanita, Putera and Puteri wings was on the ground reaching out to the community. Their campaign in both constituencies was well received and BN was rewarded.

The results convey a clear message that unless political parties gain multiracial consensus they are doomed to be rejected. There is no future for polarised political propoganda. Foremost it is time critics of MIC accept the people’s verdict. The community needs a caring, connected and committed MIC and not politicians who thrive on instigation and agitation.
In politics gaining peoples support by serving them and winning election is what matters. MIC has gained the respect of the community not by rhetoric but by committed action on the ground resolving community’s issues.
