“I do not support race based rally” – Kamalanathan

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 15, 2015 (MyTimes): Hulu Selangor Member of Parliament (MP) P. Kamalanathan unknowingly sponsored the purchased of red t-shirts for the upcoming Sept 16 assembly at his constituency office recently.

Messages by organizers of the rally have been circulating on WhatsApp groups and went viral on social media, whereby they thanked the MP for sponsoring some two hundred rally t-shirts.

“I would like to thank YB Kamalanathan Hulu Selangor Member of Parliament for sponsoring 220 Himpunan Maruah Melayu t-shirts to us in the Bukit Sentosa area,” read one of the messages that was circulated on WhatsApp.

In response to the matter, Kamalanathan told The Rakyat Post his office provided the allocation without knowledge of the event, stressing that he was against any gatherings that incited racial harm.

” I do not support any rally or gatherings that has any incitement to any race or run foul of the laws of this country ,” he stressed.

He explained that just like other constituencies, the one under his care also regularly receives requests for assistance from non-governmental organisations (NGO).

“My office also receives request to use our space for meetings and small events. This is something all MPs experience and support in good faith.

“The sole intention is to provide some form of assistance to these organisations to carry out their programs and activities.

“In the spirit of helping NGOs, my service center officers had allocated resources and the office space without knowledge of the event based on goodwill.

“We will be more careful in future to ensure such incidences are not repeated.”
