Following the P9, with its Leica-branded dual cameras, Huawei’s new P10 and P10 Plus continue the Leica partnership and branding.
With the P10 and P10 Plus, Huawei have gone one step further – it’s not just the rear cameras that are Leica branded, but now the 8-megapixel f/1.9 camera on the front has also gone “full Leica”, so to speak.
The Leica branded cameras on the back continue Huawei’s dual camera system – a 20-megapixel monochrome sensor on the back is coupled with a 12-megapixel colour one.
The two cameras work together to produce a 12-megapixel colour image while the 20-megapixel monochrome sensor provides support for high quality monochrome images or to allow the P10 and P10 Plus to sense depth and apply artificial bokeh effects.
There are other hardware differences between the P10 Plus and P10 as well.
The P10 Plus runs on the Kirin 960 2.4GHz octa-core processor, comes with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a microSD card slot, a 3,750mAh battery and has a 5.5in 2560 x 1440-pixel display.
The P10 also runs on the same Kirin 960 processor but sports 4GB of RAM, 64GB of storage, microSD slot, 3,200mAh battery and a 5.1in 1920 x 1080pixel display.
Aesthetically, the P10 and P10 Plus feature a new Hyper Diamond Cut finish on the back which gives the phone a fine textured finish that reflects light in different ways depending on the angle you view it.
Huawei is also offering up a couple of new colours for the P10 and P10 Plus, namely a new Greenery and Dazzling Blue colour which the company worked with the Pantone Color Institute to produce.
For the more budget conscious Huawei also launched the P10 Lite, which comes with a Kirin 655 2.1GHz processor, 4GB RAM, 32GB storage, microSD slot, 3,000mAh battery and 5.2in 1920 x 1080pixel display.
The P10 Lite does not have the dual camera system and Leica branding of its higher-end siblings and instead comes with a single 12-megapixel rear camera and an 8-megapixel front facing camera.
Prices are RM3,099 for the P10 Plus, RM2,499 for the P10 and RM1,299 for the P10 Lite with all models available in Prestige Gold or Graphite Black.
According to Matthew Ng, deputy country director of the Business Group of Huawei Technologies Malaysia, the Greenery and Dazzling Blue colours are expected to only hit our market in May or June.
Preorder starts from March 23 at Huawei Experience Stores, Lazada and Vmall with phone availability for the P10 and P10 Lite starting from March 31, while the P10 Plus will only make it to our shores on April 15.NST
