Wanita MIC is appalled and saddened to hear a 11 years old girl giving birth to a baby boy instead of enjoying her childhood. It is disturbing knowing a young child’s virtue and innocence have been violated. No girls should go through this at the young age, such a traumatic experience. We urge Police Diraja Malaysia to charge the “rapist” for statutory rape.

Despite what parents may think, they have an enormous influence on their children’s lifestyle even in a culture that bombards young people with conflicting and often-confusing messages about intimacy— parents remain powerful. Educate children and monitor their activities and behavior. Parental supervision and teaching the importance of values and attitudes could prevent many teen/child pregnancies. Close parent-child relationships not only help protect young people from early sex and pregnancy, they also help teens avoid other such risky behaviors as violence, substance and alcohol use, and school failure.

Parents who clearly communicate their values and expectations to their children, express their concerns and love for them early and often, and exercise supervision — including their child’s selection of friends and role models raise children who are more likely to be well behaved and successful. Overall strength and closeness of parent/child relationships seems to be the best protection against all vices.

Wanita MIC pray for good health, happiness and safety for both mother and baby.
