GEORGE TOWN: Barisan Nasional (BN) will table a motion demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng for alleged graft, at the next state assembly sitting next month.

The decision follows Lim’s statement that the Penang government wants action taken against Tasek Gelugor Member of Parliament Datuk Shabudin Yahaya, over his recent remarks in the Dewan Rakyat on rape victims and child marriage.

Penang Umno liaison committee chairman Datuk Seri Zainal Abidin Osman said BN will ask state opposition leader Datuk Jahara Hamid to table the motion at the next state assembly sitting, which begins on May 19.

“The Chief Minister is adamant on continuing to (demand action) despite the explanation provided by Shabudin.

“We see this as Lim’s ‘act of revenge’ against Shabudin following the latter’s revelation in Parliament last year of Lim’s purchase of a property below market price,” he said today.

Shabudin’s exposé led to Lim being charged with two counts of corrupt practices on June 30 last year. The trial has yet to begin.-NST
