PETALING JAYA: Samsung has unveiled its next-generation smartphones – the Galaxy S8 and S8+ – in New York and these are about to go up for pre-order here.
Malaysian fans looking to be the first in the country to get their hands on the futuristic-looking phones should mark April 11 on the calendar.
The three-day pre-order period is from 10am that day to 11.59pm on April 13. More details are available at www.samsung.com/my/s8preorder.
By almost eliminating the bezel, Samsung has managed to squeeze in much bigger screens on its newest flagship smartphones.
These will be the first phones to feature Samsung’s AI (artificial intelligence) assistant, Bixby.
It allows users to tell the phone to launch apps, call up images, send a picture and even check if a pictured item can be bought online.
Bixby can also translate 52 languages and remind you to do things based on your schedule or habits.
Both smartphones have an 8-megapixel smart-autofocus front camera, 12-megapixel Dual Pixel rear camera, 4GB RAM and 64GB onboard memory. There is a choice of three colours – Midnight Black, Orchid Gray or Maple Gold.
The Galaxy S8 and S8+ are priced at RM3,299 and RM3,699, respectively, and a RM300 deposit is required to secure a pre-order.
Pre-order customers will be able to collect the phones on May 4, a day before the official launch in the country. Each will also receive RM900 worth of goodies while stocks last.
Those who pre-order will receive a Limited Edition Starter Kit, consisting of a clear cover, screen protector, wireless charger stand, USB Type-C cable and 5,100mAh battery pack. On top of that, they get the Samsung Protection Plus which covers mechanical and electrical breakdowns, as well as accidental damage.
There is also a year-long screen-crack protection plan that offers a one-time replacement for that period, as well as a 12-month extended warranty. -star
