KUALA LUMPUR: The Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) yesterday had presented a RM50,000 cheque each to Universiti Malaysia Kelantan (UMK) and Universiti Sains Malaysia (USIM).
The contribution is meant to help students who are less fortunate and in need of financial assistance.
Bakti president, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, the wife of Prime Minister Najib Razak, presented the cheque to USIM Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni) Prof Datuk Dr Hassan Basri Awang Mat Dahan and UMK Vice-Chancellor Prof Datuk Mortaza Mohamed.
The cheque presentation was held at Bangunan Bakti Siti Hasmah. Also present at the event were Bakti secretary Datin Seri Khamarzan Ahmad Meah, treasurer Puan Sri Kamariah Zakaria and Bakti members.
The money from the grant will be distributed to students who are in need of financial aid. This is the third Bakti grant for 2017, said Bakti education chairman Datin Noraini Sulaiman.
She said the grants are usually given based on the application sent in by the universities.
Noraini added that last year, Bakti contributed a sum of RM50,000 to Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas). -NST
